by admin

After Apple, Google also reaches out to developers. Starting next July 1st, it will reduce developer commissions on the Play Store, its digital store. Up to the first million dollars in revenue, each developer commissions will drop to 15% each year, which is half of the current value. Once over the million, the commissions will return to 30%, the standard rate.

“With this change, 99% of developers globally who sell digital goods and services with the Play Store will see a 50% reduction in commissions. These are funds that can help developers grow at a critical stage by hiring more. engineers, increasing marketing staff, increasing server capacity and more, “explains Sameer Samat, VP, Google Product Management in an official post. The move follows a similar decision made by Apple in December and is part of a general debate over the relationship between the tech giants and revenues from their app stores. A debate brought to the fore by Epic Games, the developer of the popular game Fortnite, which has opened a dispute with Apple and Google by introducing its own payment system that bypasses the percentages withheld by official digital stores.
