Sickness certificates jump on the first day of application of the green pass. At the end of the day, INPS recorded an increase of 17,340 sick workers compared to the previous Friday, with a jump of 22.6%. In total, 94,191 workers reported their illness, against 76,851 on the previous Friday.
The increase was lower than the average, but still high, among public workers (+ 18.3%), surpassed by protected private workers (+ 21.1%). The increase however stopped at 10.5%, for workers classified by INPS as unprotected who by law do not receive sick pay.
The increase in certificates is more contained if the comparison is made, by scrolling the INPS tables back by two weeks, with Friday, October 1st. At that time they were two weeks behind when reporting a disease, the number of certificates on Friday, October 1st amounted to 87,492: the increase in this case is only 6,699 equal to 7.6%.
The jump between 8 and 15 October is instead more decisive. Yesterday there were 21,794 certificates sent by public workers (+ 18.3%), 57,601 by private workers (+ 21.1%) and 8,215 by unsecured private workers (+ 10.5%) who do not pay contributions to INPS and for this reason they do not benefit from sickness allowance directly from the institution. To these is added a chapter of ‘other workers who reach 6,699 certificates, from 3,514 of the previous Friday (+ 87.3%). (
