The fencer won the first blue medal in Tokyo 2020 with silver in the saber. Originally from Foggia, but Bolognese by adoption, he is divided between a love for fencing and a passion for cooking
Italy’s first medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games bears the signature of Luigi Samele. Born in Foggia in 1987, but living in Bologna for several years, he won silver in Japan in the saber, surrendering in the final only to a champion of the caliber of Aron Szilagyi. This discipline has already given him other great satisfactions, such as the two second places in the World Championships, a European gold and a bronze in the London 2012 Olympics. Results born of tenacity put on the platform and training.
GYM
—
An important strength for a fencer is certainly the quickness of the legs. Samele relies on the structures of Virtus Fencing Bolognese for his tests. The exercises are different from each other: after various gaits, from skip to kick, you move from lateral movements with the elastic to stretches with lots of weight lifting. And then pilates with the aim of toning the muscles and preventing any injuries.
CLIMBING
—
Bologna is also a city appreciated by those who love cycling. Not even Samele gives up on this means of transport. This is confirmed by the Instagram account, with a photo from 2020 in which the fencer is resting after the tiring climb to the sanctuary of San Luca. A ramp faced in recent years by the professional riders involved in the Giro dell’Emilia. No racing bike in the case of Luigi, who prefers mountain bikes.
KITCHEN
—
Samele not only has sport in his blood, but he also cultivates a passion for cooking. During the 2020 lockdown, in fact, he showed his skills on social media in the preparation of a julienne with his friend Francesco D’Armiento. Sushi and burgers are the most popular dishes judging by his shots.
