Durando ended up in the dock for manslaughter on charges of causing the death of a patient by treating her from malignant melanoma with the controversial ‘Hamer method’. According to what was reconstructed in the trial, the patient turned to Durando for a mole, 5 mm wide, on the left shoulder. On the basis of the theories developed by the German Ryke Geerd Hamer, whose scientific foundations had been questioned in the classroom, she was subjected to a therapy based on herbal teas and psychological sessions. He died in 2015 at the age of 53.
The Court of Appeal, on October 26, 2018, had sentenced Durando. The story had ended in the Supreme Court.
Pending the decision of the Supreme Court, the defense lawyer Salvo Lo Greco had first requested probation, rejected by the Supervisory Court, and then his release from prison. In spring 2021, the judges of the Surveillance had granted the suspension. In other words: Durando had left prison awaiting the sentence of the Ermellini. Arrived last July.
