(ANSA) – PADUA, 07 JUL – From his home to the sea, and back, breathing deeply the scent of rebirth. That rebirth that he experienced, struck two years ago by a sarcoma, treated at the Veneto Oncological Institute in Padua, subjected to surgery, radiotherapy, and now cured. Lorenzo Rama, 22, originally from Dueville, will travel 250 kilometers by bicycle on a journey of the heart and in the heart of Veneto, touching Vicenza, Treviso, Jesolo and Sottomarina, returning to Padua, the headquarters of the Iov.
A tour of the hinterland and lagoon in five days and as many stages, accompanied by his friend and fellow countryman Samuele Benetti, starting on July 17 from Dueville. The “By bicycle for the Iov” event aims to raise awareness of research and raise funds.
“I decided to start this initiative because I was an oncological patient, subjected to surgery and subsequent radiotherapy. Precisely in that difficult period – says Lorenzo – I understood that there is so much need, I felt so much suffering, I myself suffered . My ‘marathon on two wheels’ – he adds – is to demonstrate strength and rebirth, to testify that there is a whole life beyond illness “.
The health workers who treated him were happy with his decision. “I really like the image of this boy who, riding his bicycle, helmet on his head, crosses the Veneto, remembering his history and thinking of us. In the din of modern life, the idea that a young known closely, pedals focusing his attention on scientific research is a commendable signal: progress in the laboratory – comments the Director General of the Veneto Oncological Institute, Patrizia Benini – is also achieved thanks to the initiative of individuals, who are the lifeblood for our look to the future “.
