Congress “Poverty and Health” discusses necessary measures

How can health-promoting measures be consistently combined with environmental and climate protection as well as equal opportunities? How exactly must the social-ecological transformation processes required for this be designed? More than 2,000 participants will discuss this under the motto “Socially fair: Health – Environment – Climate” from March 5th to 6th in Berlin and digitally on March 12th at the public health congress “Poverty and Health”. The perspective of people with experience of poverty is also important.

The congress is organized by Gesundheit Berlin-Brandenburg e. V. together with numerous partners such as the Federal Center for Health Education (BZgA) and the National Center for Early Help (NZFH), based in the BZgA. The congress is under the patronage of Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach, who will open the in-person event on March 5th in Berlin, and Berlin’s Governing Mayor Kai Wegner.

Dr. Johannes Nießen, establishment representative of the Federal Institute for Prevention and Education in Medicine (BIPAM) and acting head of the BZgA: “Climate adaptation measures are becoming increasingly important for our health. Vulnerable groups in particular must be reached and prepared for the health effects of climate change. At the same time, people’s living environments must be adapted to climate change in the interests of ratio prevention. This will also support the future BIPAM. This task can only be successful if all actors from administration, politics and civil society work closely together. The ‘Poverty and Health‘ congress offers interdisciplinary exchange to develop solutions. Promoting the congress is therefore a central concern for us.”

The BZgA is active at the congress in various formats: The event “Information portals for knowledge transfer in public health in the context of climate health” will discuss how information portals should be designed to optimally ensure knowledge transfer. Others are concerned with the further development of the StadtRaumMonitor survey tool for greater inclusion and the development of materials for sexuality education for young people with cognitive impairments as part of the “herzfroh 2.0” project.

There are various events on early help topics with the participation of the NZFH: early help between crisis mode and structural resilience, interprofessional quality circles for early help, municipal quality development, early help in rural areas and impact orientation in early help. The results of the nationwide representative survey “Children in Germany” KiD 0-3 2022 will also be presented.

At the “Market of Opportunities” the BZgA and the NZFH present the latest publications at their stands and invite you to personal exchanges.

The Poverty and Health Congress has been campaigning for improving equal health opportunities in Germany since 1995. The event is the largest platform in Germany for exchange and solutions in the field of public health.
