They will allow the hospital specialist to remotely assess patients’ clinical conditions, reducing access to the facility

CATANIA – The Cardiology company of the Cannizzaro hospital in Catania starts the telemonitoring of the users of the outpatient clinic dedicated to heart failure. The first kits have been delivered that will allow the hospital specialist to remotely assess the clinical conditions of patients, reducing access to the facility. The delivery of the instrumentation represents the last step of the project carried out as part of the 2016 National Health Plan, to facilitate the stay of the sick in their home. Each kit consists of a tablet for the transmission of clinical information including the degree of circulation compensation of the patient, an echocardiogram transmission system, a sphygmomanometer for blood pressure detection, a pulse oximeter for measuring oxygen saturation and heart rate, a scale for measuring weight.

All these parameters will be recorded and transmitted to an IT platform allocated in the outpatient clinic dedicated to the treatment of heart failure, hinged in the Utic of Utic – Cardiology directed by dr. Francesco Amico and managed by Dr. Maria Catalano. The parameters thus acquired will be evaluated by the doctor who, together with the technical and nursing staff, will be able to implement corrective therapeutic actions if necessary. The general manager Salvatore Giuffrida, the medical director Diana Cinà and the medical director of the health management Anna Maria Longhitano were present at the delivery. “The experience of the Covid pandemic – said Dr. Giuffrida – strongly highlighted the need, already felt, to rationalize access in a hospital environment. In this perspective, the use of digitalization in medicine, with the possibility of remotely monitoring the clinical conditions of people with chronic diseases, becomes an exceptional resource. We are pleased to be able to offer this opportunity, thanks to the PSN project assigned to the Cardiology Unit, to the patients of the clinic dedicated to the treatment of heart failure ».
