When our water supplies are lacking, cramps, weakness, irritability, but also, in severe cases, heat stroke can appear.

The daily water requirement changes according to the physique and age, but generally drinking enough in summer means consuming about two liters of water. If we also do a lot of physical activity, we can drink a total of three or four liters of fluids per day.

Due to the reduced perceptive capacity, the elderly tend to feel less the stimulus of thirst, running into the risk of dehydration more easily. This is why in old age it is essential to drink, especially in summer, before thirst is perceived clearly. After waking up and before breakfast, it is recommended to drink water, to regain hydration as soon as possible after rest.

Drinking a lot in summer is certainly healthy, but drinking too much is disadvantageous, especially during meals. An overabundance of fluids hinders digestion, dissolving gastric juices too much, and also increases blood pressure. Therefore, the water supply must be divided and distributed as much as possible during the day, especially between meals.

It is obvious that at the base of our hydration there is water, which is to be preferred non-carbonated and not too cool. For our health it is almost always better to prefer tap water, unless different needs or inept water supplies.

So water becomes a fundamental ally for our summer days, and its consumption should never be underestimated because distraction is a bad situation to bear and can lead to serious consequences. A glass of water becomes not only a way to stay cooler but also an action not to be underestimated.
