Chinese tech giant Huawei together with the urban development project of the Punjab province in eastern Pakistan, Ravi Urban Development Authority (Ruda), have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a “safe and smart” city on the banks of the Ravi River. The agreement calls for both parties to unite to revive the now dying Ravi River, transforming the area into a safe and smart green city with all the latest technologies in terms of security and smart city. The document reaffirms the existing one-year relationship between the two entities, according to a statement shared yesterday by Huawei Pakistan.

In the description of the project, the release states that the parties will work together on several key projects, including some known as “smart forests”, in which Ruda will act as a developer and Huawei will be the main technology partner. “The parties will collaborate in the development of intelligent forests through the design and execution phases of construction thanks to the latest technologies such as IoT, cloud computing, big data, AI, data center networks, storage and servers, data center installations, systems of intelligent security surveillance, solar energy, etc. “, the document announced.

On Wednesday 25 August, Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan inaugurated the country’s first intelligent forest covering 1,214 hectares of land that will be developed by Ruda with technical assistance from Huawei. According to Khan, 10 million trees will be planted in the forest, and he added that the growth of each plant will be monitored in collaboration with Huawei which will install sensors to warn if someone cuts the trees. The prime minister also appreciated the support of Ruda and Huawei for the construction of the new safe and smart city in the river forest and said he was looking forward to spreading the initiative across the country.
