If Italian universities compete in video games

NAPLES – The trophy for the winners is a scholarship. And they raised it in two at the conclusion of the 2WATCH University League 2021 powered by TIM, the first Italian competition on video games that saw the participation of three universities: Federico II University, Parthenope University of Naples and Roma Tre University. The event, organized by the 2WATCH startup, a company operating in the export and gaming sector, had a great success and saw the involvement of thousands of players and a follower base of several million spectators and enthusiasts.

In the splendid setting of Villa Doria d’Angri, in Naples, made available by the Parthenope University, the final event took place where the 12 finalists challenged each other live on FIFA and FORTNITE video games, in front of an audience of fans and of influencers and streamers, to win the title of champion of the first edition and obtain the scholarship. Piero Limoncelli, student of the Federico II University, won the first prize for the FORTNITE tournament; Francesco Gargiulo, Parthenope student, won the first prize of the FIFA tournament.

The University League kicked off in May with the qualifying rounds that saw hundreds of students busy. The competition included not only videogame skills but also good academic results that averaged the scores accumulated during the games. The entire competition, and the final live event, were broadcast live on the 2WATCH Twitch channel, 2WATCHTv, through a schedule that offered analysis, insights and comments of the matches.

The entire event, sponsored by TIM, Eurospin, Adidas (official supplier), Samsung and RDS Next (media partner), was appreciated by students and universities who have already requested a second edition and generated important media coverage with over of 3 million impressions and about 10 thousand spectators during the live event. “We are delighted with the result obtained with this first edition of the University League. Students, Universities, Sponsors and Publishers all united to talk about how gaming can open up professional opportunities for students. We are already working on the next edition where we will have at least 10 Universities involved” he commented Fabrizio Perrone, CEO & Co-Founder of 2WATCH. “Seeing the tears in the eyes of the winners and the cheering of their teammates was something incredible.”
