The vaccination campaign against seasonal flu is also starting in Puglia. A circular signed by the councilor for health, Pier Luigi Lopalco, and by the director of the health department, Vito Montanaro, provides operational indications for vaccinations for the 2021-2022 season. The campaign – we read “is fundamental because the health emergency from Covid-19 requires strengthening measures aimed at continually improving the response capacity of the health system”. The circular envisages the obligations of information and promotion of vaccinations at all levels of the regional health service. “In the presence of co-circulation of Covid-19 viruses and seasonal flu – it is written – it is necessary to reiterate the importance of vaccination to simplify the diagnosis and management of suspected cases”.
The offer will be active for adults over the age of 50 at the highest risk and for those hospitalized in long-term care facilities or home care, with priority given to pregnant women, people with pathologies at risk of complications and children from 6 months to 6 years, as well as for all categories most at risk of complications in case of flu. In the Puglia Region, there is an obligation to vaccinate health workers. The Region has purchased 1,600,000 doses of vaccine to be distributed: the offer must be guaranteed starting from the actual availability by the Local Health Authorities, with priority to health workers, subjects at risk, chronic patients in charge of the Networks, patients hospitalized in hospitals or RSA. During vaccination, the administration of pneumococcal or anti herpes zoster vaccines may also be recommended.
Pending the regional agreement with pharmacies, general practitioners and pediatricians will collect the doses for their patients, going to the districts or local health authorities. Local health authorities will also be able to use the vaccination hubs already equipped for the Covid vaccine and all the activated vaccination networks, also in the perspective connected to the recall of the anti Covid vaccination. For the non-ambulatory, general practitioners and pediatricians of free choice will guarantee vaccination at home.
