In the future of Xiaomi there may be electric cars

by admin

Xiaomi plans to build electric vehicles (EVs) using facilities from Great Wall Motor Co Ltd, three sources with direct knowledge of the matter reported to Reuters. Xiaomi, one of the largest smartphone makers in the world, is said to be in talks to use one of Great Wall’s factories in China to make electric vehicles under its own brand, two of the sources said.

Xiaomi would aim its electric vehicles at the mass market, in line with the usual positioning of its electronics products, the two sources added. Great Wall would also provide engineering advice to accelerate the project, one of the sources said. Both companies are expected to announce the partnership early next week.

Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun believes that the company’s experience in hardware manufacturing will help accelerate the design and production of the new electric vehicles, one of the Reuters sources clarified. The company plans to launch its first electric vehicle around 2023, one of the sources said. Xiaomi and Great Wall declined to comment.
