There are three subtypes of the Indian variant B.1.617 discovered a few months ago: they have been called B.1.617.1, B.1.617.2 and B.1.617.3 and are under observation as they spread to dozens of other countries – in Asia , America and Europe – why it is important to understand how fast new variants spread, to what extent they are able to evade the host’s immune system, and whether they can cause more severe forms of the disease than older variants.
