ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANCE is one of the greatest public health problems of this century. Due to incorrect use or disposal of the antibiotics, it is increasingly difficult to cure infectious diseases: their active ingredients become less effective precisely because the bacteria become resistant. To combat them, Israeli researchers at Ben-Gurion University in the Negev have developed microscopic molecular tweezers capable of removing the thin layer of fibers that protect bacteria, making them vulnerable and sensitive to drugs.
