Is the shingles vaccine also useful against genital herpes?

Can the herpes zoster vaccine somehow reduce or attenuate genital herpes recurrences?

Herpes Zoster is caused by a virus called Varicella-Zoster Virus, also responsible for Chickenpox, while genital Herpes is caused by a different virus, called Herpes Simplex. They are therefore two different viruses and, to date, there is no data demonstrating the effectiveness of Zoster vaccines against Herpes simplex. A vaccine against Herpes simplex would certainly be a great achievement of scientific research and is in development. In the meantime, if vaccination against Zoster is indicated due to your age or clinical condition, do not miss this great opportunity.
