Jumping Rope: The Exercise Better Than Running for Weight Loss

Jumping rope is better than running when it comes to losing weight, according to a recent study. While running is great for burning calories and losing weight, jumping rope can provide the same benefits in a much shorter amount of time.

According to personal trainer and nutritionist Gabbi Berkow, doing about 120 jumps per minute for an hour can burn up to almost 1,000 calories. Jumping rope also helps develop coordination, strength in the calves and ankles, core strength, posture, and cardiovascular endurance. It can also help build bone density, which protects against bone loss and osteoporosis.

In comparison, running can burn between 560 and 800 calories per hour. While still a significant amount, it is less than what can be achieved through jumping rope.

A recent 12-week study found that jumping rope reduces body fat and improves risk factors associated with heart disease. Additionally, running has been shown to be an excellent method for burning body fat and improving cardiovascular endurance.

For individuals with limited time, jumping rope may be more beneficial than running. However, combining both forms of exercise and adding weight training sessions can further enhance weight loss and body sculpting. Strength training accelerates the metabolism due to the increase in muscle mass, leading to more efficient and faster weight loss.

Ultimately, it is recommended to combine jumping rope or running with strength exercises to achieve the best results in weight loss and overall fitness.
