Mental health has never been a taboo subject for James Middleton, brother of Kate Middleton e Pippa, who has repeatedly spoken of his own depression problems and how much difference it made for him to have been able to count on the support of his family. During an interview with TelegraphRecently, James praised Kate and Pippa for not leaving him alone, not even for a day when he needed it.
Kate Middleton in therapy with Pippa to support James
Offering all possible help, the Middleton sisters even went to therapy along with James. In fact, in the cognitive behavioral sessions followed by her brother, both Kate and Pippa have participated several times, tackling this important path together with him and not holding back.
In fact, the whole family did not fail in unconditional support. “We all went to therapy, not necessarily at the same time, but individually and sometimes together. And this was important because it helped them to understand me, to understand the mechanisms of my mind ”.
James Middleton, the problems and difficulties
During the interview with Telegraph, James also revealed multiple times that he had thoughts of suicide before going to therapy. Being followed by a professional, however, helped him enormously to face such a dark and delicate period. “I remember thinking I wasn’t really a threat to myself though.” Although it was not easy to open up to family, his greatest fear was that of not being able to get out of depression.
“It was almost a challenge not to show my discomfort. I knew it would take some time before I recovered ”, he confessed himself.
After a year of therapy and the unwavering support of Kate and the Middletons, however, James managed to defeat what was tormenting him.
The unexpected gesture of Kate and the Middletons
Kate’s support cannot and must not go unnoticed. In a world that is moving towards an inevitable frenzy of always showing oneself to the maximum, as if we were unwavering, real robots and not made of flesh and blood, it is important to show a positive example and a gesture that should be taken for granted, but it is not at all. Because the issue of mental health often takes a back seat, and there is (unfortunately) a lot of underlying shame about it.
The Duchess of Cambridge has shown the world once again that it is possible to bear important burdens such as the Royal protocol, official commitments and, at the same time, not to forget the family, carving out space and time for love and affection.
