Kyriakides Antibiotic Resistance Is Silent Pandemic - Medicine

Antibiotic resistance is a “silent pandemic” and an “ever-present threat” and should be included in an international agreement on pandemic preparedness and response. This was stated by the EU health commissioner speaking at the G20 Health in Rome.

The G20, said Stella Kyriakides, can contribute to providing global responses to the pandemic “by sharing information, especially faster detection and early warning, strengthening research and ensuring the flow of goods in global supply chains” .

Kyiriakides then reiterated the EU’s “full support” for an “international agreement on preparedness and response to pandemics”, recommending the inclusion of “provisions on antimicrobial resistance”.
