Federal Health Minister Prof. Karl Lauterbach informed himself on site about the current status of the institute’s research, which is partly financed by the Federal Ministry of Health. Laboratory experiments on mice, in which it was possible to generate tumor-fighting immune cells, so-called CAR-T cells, directly in the body, attracted particular interest. CAR-T cells approved as human drugs allow effective therapy for leukemias and lymphomas in patients who have already had no therapy, so that great hope is placed in their further development for the therapy of solid tumors.
