Exosomes, similar to bottles containing a message inside them, are vesicles small enough to move freely in our body and penetrate the cell membrane to deliver their message. Only recently has the enormous potential of these particles emerged, nanospheres with a diameter of less than 150nm that can contain surface proteins, DNA, miRNA, RNA, lipids, etc. The set of surface proteins, their carrying capacity and their stability make the exosomes of potential extracellular messengers able to reach very distant cells within our body and to identify metastatic ‘niches’.
