Medical advice from umbrella … | Butac

There is a screenshot that is circulating on the net, you have reported it to us like this:

We bring you the text for those who have problems reading it:

“Notice to vaccinophile sailors: I am 68 years old, a Degree in Medicine and Surgery, a Specialization in Clinical and Laboratory Hematology, a Specialization in Hygiene and Preventive Medicine, twenty years of teaching, 86 scientific publications (two and a half times those di ricciardi), 40 years and six months in the hospital, three influences in total (including Hong Kong in 1969), I have never had (and never will) a “flu shot”. End of notice “. Dr. Massimo Masotti. The vaccine you do it you who are already in line but do not impose it on others not all are balls .. Moreover, the justification of the contagion is not even valid. IF YOU ARE VACCINATED, WHAT ARE YOU AFRAID?

Have you read carefully? A part of the text should be quoted, so report word by word what Dr. Masotti wrote, a name that is among the members of the Order of Bologna (but as we will see shortly, it is a case of homonymy). The other is clearly added by whoever is circulating it. Searching the net, first of all a Facebook page already blacklisted appears, Liberamente, a page that has been misinforming for some time, but fortunately with four cats to follow it. But it is from them that I find a version of that quotation mark with some references:

“Notice to vaccinophile sailors: I am 68 years old, a Degree in Medicine and Surgery, a Specialization in Clinical and Laboratory Hematology, a Specialization in Hygiene and Preventive Medicine, twenty years of teaching, 86 scientific publications (two and a half times those di ricciardi), 40 years and six months in the hospital, three influences in total (including Hong Kong in 1969), I have never had (and never will) a “flu shot”. End of notice “.
Dr. Massimo Masotti

The curious thing is that those who manage Liberamente, to those who ask for sources of the text, refer to the page of Dr. Masotti, where this long post is present:

.. Notice to vaccinophile sailors. After expressing my intentions of, having never done it before, continue not to get the flu shot, as well as hundreds of “approvals” and “friend requests”, I had to read upset critiques of spies and obviously fake profiles (if you want to make a false profile do not call yourself a “forensic neurolga in Washington”: call yourself a “fishwife in Campo de ‘Fiori”, you are more credible).

1) I graduated in Medicine and Surgery in Ferrara on July 22, 1976 (aged 24) 110/110 and honors, in July 1979 (70/70) I took the Specialization in Clinical and Laboratory Hematology, in July 1984 ( 70/70 with honors) the Specialization in Hygiene and Preventive Medicine;

2) I entered Sant’Anna di Ferrara (Corso Giovecca, 203) as a first year student in November 1970 and left it as Medical Director on December 31, 2010;

3) I redeemed the years of Degree and Specialization just hired as Assistant in November 1979: on July 22, 2010 I completed 40 years of contributions;

4) in November 1979 I won the Assistant Competition, in 1984 that of Help;

5) I have over 80 publications, mostly still surveyed in PubMed: those who say that PubMed counts for nothing and that Blood, Blut, Acta Haematologica, Thrombosis Research are not “scientific journals” have only read the Almanacs of Mickey and Nembo Kid and, perhaps , Republish !;

6) I have no more time to waste: I tell, I try to explain (why I have always liked “teaching”, even at the University), reason and reason, but if one does not really want to understand or cannot really understand, can go to body.

I can document everything: in the past few years even a very good local “journalist” questioned that I worked at Sant’Anna, and this was an extraordinary indicator of a certain baseness of “journalism”.

7) on 7 December 2010 I ceased all professional activities;

8) I resigned from the medical order of Ferrara in October 2016, when I very bitterly discovered that he no longer represented me, despite the declarations of a “Friend” (but Judas Iscariote also professed himself “Friend” of the master).

If you read it carefully you will find that it does not mention Ricciardi, nor the sentence “If you are vaccinated what are you afraid of?” I do not comment on his position on the flu vaccine, he himself explains that he is no longer a doctor and that he is no longer a member of the Order (as we mentioned before there is a namesake in Bologna, but it is precisely another persona) therefore whatever it says, even if dropped from above, counts as the two of spades when trump is denier.

I would just like to point out two small things.

I have over 80 publications, mostly still surveyed in PubMed: the ones that say that PubMed matters for nothing and that Blood, Blut, Acta Haematologica, Thrombosis Research are not “scientific journals” they have only read the Almanacs of Mickey and Nembo Kid and, perhaps, RePublish

PubMed is like Google, it has no scientific value for a study to appear on that portal. As anyone can verify, this is a free biomedical scientific literature search engine. Everything published in scientific journals (series or predatory publishing, with zero or very high impact factor) finds space on PubMed. Having studies censored and indexed by PubMed is not synonymous with being great scientists, but only with working in the scientific field.

Of the publications that Dr. Masotti cites, the only really noteworthy one is Blood, which has an Impact Factor of 22,113:

  • Blut ceased publication in 1990
  • Acta Hematologica has an Impact Factor of 1,196
  • Thrombosis Research ha un Impact Factor di 3.944

Let me be clear, the low IF does not mean anything, as Elia Marin explained some time ago, but since it is stated that PubMed is science I think it was correct to frame things in the best possible way. A tour on Dr. Masotti’s bulletin board shows us Senator Paragone’s shares, ItalExit posts, complaints against green passes, lockdowns and so on. Little science but a lot of politics, too bad.

Being influenced by posts like the one up there, convincing oneself that it has some scientific value, is wrong. As I have been saying for a year and a half now, individual voices should not be listened to, it does not matter whether they are for or against something, the scientific community must be listened to. And that is compact in saying that vaccines are making a difference in the fight against the pandemic and that for now we are not out of it, and therefore containment measures are still needed, especially to defend those who cannot (or do not want) to prevent.
