Medicine in Cosenza, Controvento: “The Calabrians want to be spoken”

by admin

“We don’t know if Giovanbattista De Sarro, pro tempore rector of the University of Catanzaro, consider the people of Catanzaro forgetful, in this regard we want to reassure him: they are not and it will certainly not be he nor his counterpart Leone to make fun of them “. Thus began the note of the newborn political movement Against the wind: “In a region where Ndrangheta and Freemasonry go hand in hand, where brain drain is the order of the day, where parochialism and envy have taken over, where employment indicators are at historic lows, study and meritocracy are the only medicines. The school and in particular the Calabrian universities have a great task: to train the Calabrians of tomorrow. People of culture, moral depth and, above all, human. Philippe Daverio used to say “that culture will save the world”, drawing with him the criticisms of Umberto Eco. We believe that a world without culture is a book without words. Today universities have become rather than beacons of knowledge “subsidiaries” of “baronies” and “lodges”. And here instead of working to improve the world around us, perhaps leaving it better than we found it, Professor De Sarro, who has been at the helm of the UMG for a few years, has done more damage than the rest. One of De Sarro’s first acts was to activate an inter-university course between the UMG and the University of Rende in health care in 2018. A first door open to the activation of health courses in Arcavacata, so much so that on that occasion the Mayor Abraham expressed his concerns. In particular, the mayor had feared the risk that the opening of a medical area at Unical could in some way jeopardize the future of the medical faculty of Catanzaro ”.

“But promptly – continues the note – the” reassurances “of De Sarro arrived” “Following our telephone conversations, it is my intention to reassure you about the perplexities expressed regarding the establishment of the inter-university degree course between the” Magna Graecia ”of Catanzaro and UNICAL in Health Assistant. I would like to reiterate that the aforementioned institution, in the event of favorable approval by the CUN, will in no way prejudice the University of Catanzaro and consequently the capital. In fact, as I anticipated, in the agreement for the establishment of the aforementioned course it is expressly provided that the administrative and management office of the degree course is the University of Catanzaro. Moreover, it could not be otherwise considered that, pursuant to the Interministerial Decree of February 19, 2009 no. 119 “Determination of the Degree Classes of the Health Professions” – art. 2 paragraph 1 “The Degree courses of the Health Professions can be established and activated by the Faculties of Medicine and Surgery …” and, as is known, the University of Catanzaro is the only University in Calabria to be the seat of the School of Medicine and Surgery”.

“Well, actually bad, because two years after this declaration – continues the note – the“ degree in Medicine and Digital Technologies ”course at Unical is a reality. No longer a door, but a door for the construction of the second medical school in Calabria. And if anyone considers this vision risky, it would be enough to read the statements of the mayor of Cosenza, Mario Occhiuto and above all those of his colleague from Rende, Marcello Manna who has already clamored for the new hospital to be built in Rende (aka Policlinico). But, what is even more sad, is that the mayor of Rendese, in addition to asking for the construction of the new hospital, “snubs” (from the series in addition to insulting) both the University of Catanzaro and the Catanzaro healthcare excellences: ” the University of Calabria can indicate the change of course necessary to guarantee the constitutional right to health and care and the right to education “.

“We do not know – concludes the note – if De Sarro will copy and paste the” reassuring “words he had” trimmed “to the Mayor Abraham, but since, as the great Corrado Alvaro (who coincidentally studied and trained culturally in Catanzaro ): “The Calabrians want to be spoken”, we ask the rectors of the Magna Graecia University and Unical to hold a joint press conference to unravel any doubts and slander about this new degree course in “Medicine and Digital Technologies”. It would be an act of fairness and “high” culture towards all Calabrians “.
