Over 170 students residing outside Europe have applied to attend the new single-cycle university course of medicine and surgery in English which will start in Piacenza in a few days. Lessons will start on Monday 18 October in the tapestry hall of the Alberoni college, for one hundred places available. In total – including Italian and European students – 333 are enrolled in the admission test which took place last 9 September. Non-EU candidacies come from any corner of the planet, from Asia, Africa and America. Specifically: Pakistan (25 young people in the ranking), Iran (55), Egypt (2), Brazil (4), Turkey (41), India (16), South Korea (2), USA (4), Israel ( 8), Saudi Arabia (3), Lebanon (7), Malaysia (1), Algeria (1), United Arab Emirates (1), Cameroon (1), Japan (1) and Ukraine (2).
Among these, only 40 young non-EU citizens will be able to access the university course hosted in Piacenza. From 6 October the merit ranking has been published on the portal of the University of Parma, but it is not yet final: a final bureaucratic check is awaited. There will also be 60 Italian and European students: the list of admitted students is already available on the ministerial website www.universitaly.it. In a very short time, then, registrations will begin.
