Microsoft moves to ban third-party browsers, Win 11 search bar can only lead to Edge-ezone.hk-Technology Focus-Computer

Since Microsoft launched Windows 11, the search results in the search bar of the Start menu have always been directed to Microsoft’s own “Edge” browser, but there have been third-party programs that can overcome this restriction. However, Microsoft has fixed the problem.

  • Microsoft moves to ward off third-party browsers
  • The search bar in the Start menu will only lead to the Edge browser
  • An update is released to fix vulnerabilities to prevent users from taking shortcuts to bypass Edge

In the Start menu of Windows 11, there is a search bar through which users can search for keywords on the Internet, but the search results will only lead users to “Edge”. In other words, “Edge” must be used to browse related content. However, there was a program called “EdgeDeflector” before that allowed users to break through this limitation and navigate directly to a third-party browser at that location after searching in the Start menu, instead of using “Edge”.

Microsoft later confirmed that it was aware of this situation and had made an update to block all “shortcuts” that bypassed “Edge”. Microsoft explained that providing search functions in the Start menu and directing search results directly to the “Edge” browser is an end-to-end customer experience provided by Windows, in order to make it easier for users. Microsoft emphasizes that the design of this search bar is not for users to choose which browser they are directed to.

However, Microsoft’s move angered Daniel Aleksandersen, the developer of “EdgeDeflector”, who criticized Microsoft’s actions, citing that they no longer care about their products.
