Two new cases of monkeypox have been reported in Switzerland. This was announced Thursday afternoon by the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH).

The total number of cases registered in the country since May 21 has therefore risen to six. National and international epidemiological data show that outbreaks are currently limited, but new cases are expected to occur in the future. However, the FOPH believes that there is currently no danger for the population.

Monkeypox is a generally less dangerous variant of smallpox, which has been eradicated for about forty years. Symptoms initially are high fever, headache, muscle and back pain, swollen lymph nodes. A rash then appears in one or three days, first on the face and then on the rest of the body.
