In Italy, two other cases have been identified in Lombardy: both infected are in good condition
Meanwhile, in Italy there are 2 other cases, in Lombardy, where they rise to 7 in the region. This is an Italian patient visited at San Gerardo di Monza, who was discharged and returned to his home, where he will observe the period of quarantine, and a foreign tourist housed in a hotel which, for epidemiological reasons, was hospitalized at the Polyclinic of Milan. Both patients are in good condition and are being followed up by the healthcare staff. And after the isolation of the virus in the Sack of Milan, from the first analyzes it seems that the epidemic currently underway in Europe is due to the less pathogenic virus.
According to the WHO, “the vast majority of cases reported so far have not established travel links with an endemic area and have presented themselves through primary care or sexual health services”. WHO points out that the identification of confirmed and suspected cases of monkeypox with no direct links to an endemic area “is atypical” and a case of monkeypox in a non-endemic country “is considered an outbreak”. The sudden simultaneous emergence in several non-endemic countries “suggests that there may have been undetected transmission for some time as well as recent events that have amplified the spread of the virus.”
In its report, the World Health Organization recalls that there are three immediate actions to be taken: providing accurate information to those who may be most at risk; stop further spread among risk groups; protect health workers in
first line.
