From 5 November to 30 January 2022, at the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation in Turin (in via Modane) la mostra Martine Syms: Neural Swamp, dedicated to the winning artist of the second edition of the Future Fields Commission in Time-Based Media, which was assigned to her by the same foundation and by the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
As explained, Neural Swamp is an “immersive installation” which sees three entities as protagonists: Athena, Dee and the narrator; each of them appears on a monitor or on a screen, with their images projected on the exhibition surface, invading the space together with their voices, engaged in reading a script that is generated in real time by a writing software managed by artificial intelligence.

33-year-old Martine Syms works with films, performances, installations and editorial productions for narrating the body of African American women in the digital space and “the sense of fragmentation and performativity that characterize culture at the time of the Internet and social media”: his works have been exhibited in Saint Louis, Vienna, al MoMa di New York, at the Ica in London, Glasgow, Liverpool and at the San Francisco Museum of Fine Arts.
