Nobody knows, but here’s what happens to those who eat tomatoes every day

Eating a tomato every day means introducing a number of very important microelements but it could also cause acidity. To overcome the problem it would be better to cook it so as to allow the vegetable to also release lycopene which is a rather important element for our well-being.

Some stomachs, however, can be affected by the daily consumption of tomatoes. In those cases it is better to wait a few days before consuming other quantities of vegetables. This happens because the tomato belongs to the nightshade family which, in turn, contain solanine, a substance considered toxic if consumed in large quantities.

The reason is to be found in its characteristic as an alkaloid which resembles nicotine, caffeine and papaverine due to its toxicity. When these substances enter the circulation, they give an invigorating and toning effect but then turn out to be harmful, especially as regards the parasympathetic system of our body.

The consumption of tomatoes every day

There are different types of tomatoes, which vary according to their shape and color. There are smaller tomatoes such as cherry tomatoes or San Marzano, excellent for sauce or appetizers such as Apulian friselle. There are also so-called beef hearts which are to be eaten in salads with some other accompanying vegetables. And then there are yellow, green tomatoes, etc. In short, a variety of species thanks to which we can indulge ourselves.

The only limit is to choose the product from organic farming in order to avoid ingesting pesticides and herbicides of dubious nature. We season the tomatoes with a good olive oil and alternate the fresh portions with the cooked ones. A tomato every day ensures us an important nutritional supply thanks to the microelements present.

These include: manganese, potassium, copper and phosphorus as minerals and vitamins of groups A, C, B6 and K. In addition, there is a good percentage of vegetable proteins. And as we have said, lycopene which is an antioxidant useful for the health of our cells and tissues, as it promotes their formation.

We can therefore argue that if there were no problems of intolerability we can also consume tomatoes every day without exceeding in quantity and only for a limited period. We do not go to buy tomatoes in the winter when we know that they are not grown outdoors but in greenhouses and for sure they will not have the same protein and nutritional supply.

Focus on Solanaceae

Solanaceae are a plant family that contain many vegetables and greens. In addition to tomatoes, in fact, in the list of solanaceae we find aubergines, peppers and potatoes. Unfortunately, when they are ingested, they release solanine which, when synthesized in our body, becomes a toxic substance.

Some nutritionists, especially those who promote macrobiotic diets, limit their consumption or even censor it. In a healthy diet, according to other doctors, solanaceae should not be missing only not to be consumed massively and continuously for a long period of time. In order not to risk, since the tomato is a solanacea, let’s eat more during the summer and then reduce the following months.
