Nursing Assistant Dies After Patient Attack: Lack of Security Measures and Protocol Oversight Blamed

A tragic incident occurred at the Hospital Fundación Instituto San José in Madrid on February 15, resulting in the death of a 57-year-old nursing assistant care technician. The employee, Juan Alfonso RP, was attacked by a patient who kicked him in the testicles, causing him to fall and lose consciousness. Despite being taken to the hospital’s infirmary, he was not seen by a doctor and tragically passed away hours later outside the hospital.

The lack of security measures and failure to apply assault protocols at the hospital have prompted CCOO Sanidad Madrid to report the religious order of San Juan de Dios, which manages the facility, to the Labor Inspection. The union claims that proper preventive measures were not in place and staff were not adequately trained to handle such situations. The Secretary of Occupational Health of CCOO Sanidad Madrid, Manuel Barroso, emphasized the need for an investigation into the company’s possible corporate responsibility in the worker’s death.

This incident highlights the importance of ensuring workplace safety and providing adequate training for healthcare professionals to handle potentially dangerous situations. The union’s efforts to hold those responsible accountable for the death of Juan Alfonso RP serve as a reminder of the need for proper protocols and measures to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.
