Obesity: the “dream” pill for weight loss without exercise is really coming

Thanks to the help of lactate and phenylanine, the pill that promises to fight obesity could arrive without the need to play sports.

A team of US scientists recently published a study on a molecule that could be the cornerstone in the fight against obesity.

The research teams of the Stanford University of Medicine he was born in Baylor College of Medicineled by Dr. Yong Xu, they started from an assumption as intuitive as it is important: the benefits of sport in fighting obesity. The result of their research is an amino acid called Lac-Phe.

This goal was achieved at the end of a process that led the team of researchers to investigate the link between intense physical activity and temporary reduction in appetite. Dr. Xu wondered if it was possible to ensure a reduction in appetite as happens for sportsmen immediately after training, starting from a molecular synthesis.

Apparently the answer is a gigantic Yes, being able to identify the ingredients responsible for this reduction in appetite in lactate and phenylanine. These molecules are an integral part of the metabolic process of athletes and have been used to synthesize Lac-Phe, an amino acid that will become a precious ally for all those who want lose weight but they do not have the opportunity to play sports like elderly people and people with heart disease.

The effectiveness of Lac-Phe was tested on a cohort of obese mice with important results. Mice given the amino acid synthesized by the scientists saw a reduction in food intake of up to 50% – and consequently reduced weight – with no side effects on movement skills and energy expenditure. After ten days of therapy, the mice had reduced body weight and tolerated glucose better. Specifically, the enzyme CNDP2 seems to be directly responsible for this result.
This enzyme was found in greater quantities in mice that responded positively to therapy.

The research process will take some time to bring a box of Lac-Phe to the pharmacy shelves. Nonetheless, this research has put an important piece in it and will help us better understand the effects that physical exercise has on our body and how we can reproduce them even for those who cannot practice any sport. Jonathan Longco-author of the study, hopes this new discovery will soon become very useful for the most vulnerable:

“There are people who do not have the opportunity to do enough exercise or physical, for example, elderly or frail people could benefit from taking a drug that helps to combat osteoporosis, heart disease and a number of problematic conditions”

It remains understood that apart from the most serious cases, physical exercise together with proper nutrition remains the best way to lose weight and ensure better health without drugs or “magic” pills as shortcuts.
