Occupational medicine enters the Desio hospital as a training and qualifying pole. An important agreement, lasting five years with expiry in the academic year 2025-26, was signed in recent days between Asst Brianza and the University of Insubria. At the school of specialization in occupational medicine of the University of Insubria, it is allowed to use the facilities that refer to occupational medicine of the Desian hospital.

The supervisor of the activity will be Paolo Mascagni, director of the Operational Unit which has always had very close relations with the Lombard university network. Several dozen are the postgraduates who have passed through Desio in recent years. «Ensuring and offering new young occupational doctors an adequate training course – explained Mascagni – means having some characteristics that allow us to be accredited by the University and the School of Specialties. For example, the fact that we are a national reference center in professional toxicology and allergology and for respiratory diseases that have their origin in professional activity ».

The staff of the Desio facility includes 5 doctors, including the head physician, 6 nurses, 3 chemical managers, 2 technicians, a geologist as well as an administrative. “The last generations of our staff – continued Paolo Mascagni – have completed their specialization in Desio and have decided to stop here”. Many trainees who have been hosted in Desio come from outside the region: the last of these is a young doctor from Molise. The specialist in occupational medicine, such a delicate and extremely important sector, must develop theoretical, scientific and professional knowledge in plant engineering, industrial and technological chemistry, statistics and epidemiological, physiological and psychological methodology of work, ergonomics, toxicology, radiobiology, hygiene of the work, workplace disease clinic, therapy. With the addition of the organization of first aid, emergency therapy, forensic medicine, legal sciences of work and communication, economics and business management.
