Omicron affects children and does so more and more often causing croup, the acute narrowing of the larynx which manifests itself with difficulty in breathing and a very particular sounding cough, therefore also called “seal cough” or “barking cough”. An analysis by doctors from Boston Children’s Hospital, published in Pediatrics and conducted between March 2020 and January 2022, in fact showed that, in the large American hospital, 80% of emergency care visits for positive children with croups occurred precisely during the Omicron wave.
