On WhatsApp you can (finally) move data from Android to iPhone

On WhatsApp it finally arrives an update that many have been waiting for: this is the ability to easily migrate content from an Android smartphone to an iPhone.

Apple announced in preview to a group of international publications (including Italian Tech) that the functionality is available from today in beta: “It was a very strong request from users, we worked very closely with WhatsApp and for now there are no APIs or others tools that make this kind of transfers available for other applications messaging ”, they explained from Cupertino. The option is offered to users when setting up a new iPhone.

That same phase where (although not everyone knows it) it is also possible install the app on the old Android phone Move to iOSprecisely to transfer contents such as contacts, message history, camera photos and videos, Favorites, mail accounts and calendars, as well as making a correspondence between the free apps present at that moment on the device of the green robot and those available on the App Store, so you can download and install them during the setup of the new iPhone.

Returning to WhatsApp, in short, it is a feature designed basically for make life a little easier to those who, once they have purchased a new Apple phone, want to transfer all the data and contents to it, including those of Meta’s chat which at the time had to be moved using some third-party application. Now it can finally be done simply and directly.

The update (which only works for the standard version and non per WhatsApp Business) will be concretely implemented on the server side via WhatsApp. For now, in fact, in beta but obviously (as opposed to many other features that are tested with a small number of users and then perhaps withdrawn) in this case there are no doubts about its arrival in the official version. You have to have updated the iPhone to iOS version 15.5released in mid-May, but there is no need to do anything else.

Last year, WhatsApp opened up to the possibility of transferring data from an iPhone to an Android smartphone directly from the application. Except then limit the implementation of the functionality (as confirmed by the official FAQ) to Samsung devices only and in any case using the Samsung SmartSwitch application and a USB-C to Lightning cable (or equivalent adapters). In fact, other Android devices are still waiting for this possibility.
