Medicine and Public Health Magazine leads a new educational campaign on the prevention and awareness of heart diseases in Puerto Rico, ‘Optimize your health‘ cardiovascular’, which will feature the participation of prominent Puerto Rican journalists Jorge Rivera Nieves and Grenda Rivera, along with important cardiology specialists on the island.
“This special will focus on education and awareness about hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a crucial heart condition that deserves our attention,” said Jorge Rivera Nieves.
“Our commitment is to provide accurate and accessible information so that everyone better understands these conditions, how they affect the heart health and above all, strategies to prevent them,” he added.
Increase in cardiovascular conditions in the female population
Thanks to several reports, it has been possible to identify an increase in the number of cases associated with cardiovascular diseases specifically in women. On this occasion, Grenda Rivera will be in charge of carrying a message of prevention and health care.
“An essential part of this campaign will be dedicated to the care of the heart health of women, recognizing the particularities and challenges they face. We will be joined by leading cardiology specialists, who will share their knowledge and experience for health care. Cardiovascular,” she mentioned.
Commitment to the cardiovascular health of Puerto Ricans
Three hospital institutions in the country will join this campaign, which through different in-person events will bring together expert cardiologists to continue bringing this message to the population, from prevention, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of the main cardiac conditions that prevail on the island.
Likewise, this Friday, February 9, the first in-person event of this campaign will take place, which will feature the participation of renowned Puerto Rican cardiologists, such as vascular surgeon Dr. Jorge Martínez Trabal, who will talk about peripheral arterial disease; Dr. Vanessa Rodríguez Mier, Invasive Cardiologist, who will address everything related to the prevention and treatment of thrombotic events; Dr. José Román Ramos, invasive cardiologist, who will explain the comprehensive management of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy; and Dr. Rafael Rivera Berríos, Interventional Cardiologist, who will speak on the adequate control of atrial fibrillation.
Main cardiovascular conditions of Puerto Ricans
According to the Central CT Radiology Center, cardiovascular diseases are the main cause of death in Puerto Rico, caused by a high incidence of diabetes, tobacco consumption and overweight.
A large part of the Puerto Rican population suffers from diseases such as hypertension, coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, heart failure and cardiac arrhythmias.
Most of the risk factors for these conditions are modifiable and preventable, so it is necessary to emphasize the importance of maintaining healthy habits to avoid complications.
