The Decree of the President of the Republic published in the Official Gazette, acknowledging the State Regions agreement of November 2020, recognizes osteopathy as a health profession by adopting the professional profile of the osteopath by decree. 30 SET – The Decree of the President of the Republic has been published in the Official Gazette which, by acknowledging the State Regions Agreement of November 2020, recognizes osteopathy as a health profession by adopting the professional profile of the osteopath by decree.
The agreement, atarticle 1 defined the osteopath as a health professional, in possession of a three-year university degree enabling or equivalent qualification and enrollment in the professional register, which carries out independently, or in collaboration with other health professionals, interventions to prevent and maintain health through treatment osteopathic of somatic dysfunctions not attributable to pathologies, within the musculoskeletal system.
All’article 2 it was then explained that the osteopath works in the following ways:
a) plans osteopathic treatment and prepares treatment methods by selecting exclusively manual, non-invasive and external osteopathic approaches and techniques, suitable for the patient and the clinical context;
b) performs osteopathic manipulative treatment in safety and respecting the dignity and sensitivity of the patient through specific techniques selected for the individual patient;
c) evaluates the results of osteopathic treatment, verifies their appropriateness and plans the follow-up, sharing them with the patient, with any caregivers and / or with other health professionals;
d) in order to prevent alterations of the musculoskeletal system, it promotes educational actions towards the subject under treatment, towards the family and the community; educates the patient in the body’s self-management skills and plans the educational path also in collaboration with other professionals;
at the end of the treatment, verifies the correspondence between the methodology implemented and the objectives of functional rehabilitation and psychosocial recovery; redirects the patient to the referring physician when symptoms persist beyond the expected time or worsen.
L’article 3 defined the operational context while thearticle 4 explains how, with a subsequent agreement in the State and Regions, the criteria for evaluating professional experience will be identified as well as the criteria for the recognition of the equivalence of qualifications prior to the university degree in osteopathy, whose didactic system is defined by decree of the Minister of Education , university and research, in consultation with the Minister of Health.
Finally, the articles 5 e 6 they are limited to the insertion of a financial invariance clause and the implementation of the decree.
