“Palestra Bacchettoni: use all the available space for sport”. This is the request made by Panathlon of Lucca, after having welcomed with great satisfaction the response of the Province of Lucca, which announced for the summer, the completion of the works for the gymnasium in the former Cavallerizza Ducale. Now the association sends another message to institutions, on the restructuring of Bacchettoni gym, now closed for decades and in the meantime also used for other functions (courtroom).
The situation of the historic facility was analyzed in the last meeting of the board of directors of the Panathlon Club of Lucca, which wants to continue to fully carry out its role as “promoter” of sporting practice but also as “controller”, always monitoring and reporting the needs of the world of sport and schools are constructive.
“We express our appreciation – says the Panathlon council – for the willingness of the municipal administration of Lucca to start the recovery of the structure in via dei Bacchettoni, allocating considerable resources to the purpose, after decades of substantial abandonment.
It is important that, finally, the foundations are being laid for the return of the building to its role traditional sports facility, available to the city and citizens. However, we believe it is essential that the project, which will soon be presented by the municipal councilor Francesco Raspini, envisages using all the available space for playgrounds dedicated to the various sports disciplines. In fact, by keeping the current dimensions of the Bacchettoni and restructuring it according to advanced criteria of modularity and versatility, it will be possible to offer a valuable service to many people from Lucca, especially the younger ones, and to allow the carrying out of many sporting, recreational and recreational activities “.
“Some of our advisers – continues the Panathlon council – they are part of the Consulta dello Sport and they have recently signed a letter / appeal for the full maintenance of the use of the building in via dei Bacchettoni as a gymnasium. Our hope is, therefore, that the need to make spaces available, with adequate dimensions and measures, for various disciplines, is taken into account, therefore with full use of a structure that, due to its characteristics and volume, has no equivalent in our territory. . In fact, in order not to reduce the space available for the activities, additional rooms (changing rooms, services and warehouses) could be built in the connected body of two floors. In previous meetings, the Municipality has declared itself ready to maintain a direct line with the associations and sports clubs, also through the Consulta dello Sport, and we hope that this new project can be shared with those who will then use the facility. Also for this structure the hope is that the renovation works will start as soon as possible and that it will be made available of the city a facility that would allow hundreds of school children in the city center to carry out sports activities in the morning and always young people but also other Lucca sportsmen in the afternoon ”.
“A city, a territory – closes the Panathlon council of Lucca – can be considered culturally sporty when they are equipped with facilities that, in terms of quantity and quality, allow the majority of citizens and in particular young people to play sports, thus contributing to the increase of practitioners and perhaps to the flowering of new champions. All our children have the right to practice sports, have fun and play, in a healthy and safe environment. This is only possible with adequate systems and from this point of view there has been a worrying shortage in Lucca for some time “.
