Pancreatic cancer: If you are often thirsty and your urine is this color, you may need to contact a doctor

An underestimated symptom could turn out to be a very serious health problem and could make all the difference in early diagnosis

The one at pancreas it is one of the cancers with the highest mortality, however if diagnosed in time it can be successfully treated. This is why prevention and attention to some “signals” that our body sends us are so important and can really save lives.

A new study has identified Ben 23 symptoms that may be associated with pancreatic cancer: among these there are two that until now had not been identified as indicators of the presence of a tumor form in this organ – abnormal thirst and dark-colored urine.

Some of these symptoms may appear as early as a year before clinical diagnosis, while others as early as three months. In any case, they can contribute to the early diagnosis of the disease and, consequently, to enable the patient to be treated more promptly and with a greater chance of success.

The study, conducted by researchers fromUniversity of Oxford (United Kingdom) analyzed the data of nearly 25,000 British patients diagnosed with pancreatic cancer between 2000 and 2007. Of each patient, the symptoms manifested before diagnosis were then examined, which were compared with the symptoms of other patients who were not diagnosed with the disease.

The most serious symptoms associated with the onset of pancreatic cancer – both of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinomathe most common form of pancreatic cancer, that of neoplasia neuroendocrinathe rarest form – are yellowing of the skin (jaundice) e bleeding of internal organs (stomach and intestines). But thirst and dark urine would also be included in the symptoms of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.

Other symptoms identified by researchers and attributable to the most common form of cancer are difficulty swallowing, diarrhea, vomiting, indigestion, abdominal pain, weight loss, constipation, fatty stools, nausea, flatulence, heartburn, fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, itching, back pain.

Regarding neuroendocrine neoplasm, mention symptoms such as yellowing of the skin, blood in the stool, diarrhea, vomiting, indigestion, abdominal pain and weight loss, bowel malfunction.

Unfortunately, the older data did not provide information on the progress of the disease at the time of diagnosis. This did not allow researchers to understand which symptoms were associated with the early stages of the disease and which with more advanced disease. Furthermore, since neuroendocrine neoplasm is a rare form of cancer, the relative information pool has been very limited.

Obviously, these are rather generic symptoms that should not immediately make us think of the tumor but that can be a sign of some other health problem. However, in the presence of suspicious symptoms such as the ones we have listed, we highly recommend a check with your GPwho will be able to interpret the clinical picture in the most correct way.
