Phantasy Star Online 2 was released in Japan a decade ago, but for some reason the game stayed in Asia until it finally premiered on PC and Xbox in the West in 2020. Still, Western PlayStation gamers won’t be able to join in the fun – but soon they will.
As revealed by the game’s official Twitter account, PlayStation 4 gamers will be able to join free-to-play titles including Phantasy Star Online 2 and the standalone expansion Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis (released in 2021). Since the game has been out for quite some time, you can expect a title that’s truly jam-packed with content, along with well-tuned combat.
The Phantasy Star Online series actually started 22 years ago on the Dreamcast, the precursor to Japanese MMORPGs at the time. Do you have any memories of Phantasy Star Online, will you be playing the sequel on PlayStation 4?
