There are many benefits of grapes thanks to its high content of vitamins and antioxidants. It is the fruit of the vine (Vitis vinifera), of which the berries are the real fruits, while the bunch corresponds to the infructescence, that is a set of fruits.

A very important component of the grape is the resveratrol, that is a phenol contained in the peel with important beneficial properties on the body.

The pigments responsible for the different colors of grape skins are formed during veraison, that is, the process that leads to maturation

Calorie

Grapes contain about 60 kcal per 100 grams. Its composition includes: water (70-80%), sugars (15-20%), fibers and mineral salts (including calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus and potassium). In general it is one of the most sugary fruits and for this reason it is preferable to consume between meals, since, combined with other foods, it can significantly raise the glycemic load of the meal. Much better during the mid-morning snack or afternoon snack, perhaps in combination with a small handful of dried fruit.

White or black grapes?

There are no major differences between white grapes and black grapes: there is only greater richness in terms of iron and flavonoids in black grapes which is recommended to improve blood circulation and fortify blood vessels. The purplish color of black grapes indicates that it contains a large amount of antioxidants; it also has high amounts of fiber and acts as a laxative. Black grapes are also recommended during pregnancy as they produce folic acid (the integration of which is essential for the health of the unborn child).

In the kitchen

All types of grapes and all their derivatives are used in the kitchen: wine, which can be of various alcoholic grades, grape juice which is non-alcoholic, table grapes and raisins. Wine is a fundamental ingredient of sauces and sauces that accompany both meat and fish; it is used in risotto as in roast, the important thing is to “cook” it for the time necessary for the alcohol to evaporate. As for grapes, it should not be relegated to simple fruit salad. You can make jams, cakes and biscuits, while raisins (dried grapes) are found in many desserts but are also widespread in savory dishes.

Contraindications

Grapes should be consumed in moderation by those suffering from ulcers, colitis, kidney diseases and diabetes, especially black grapes which have a high sugar content.
