Puglia is also on the alert for Monkeypox
The Puglia Region on alert for monkeypox. After the Ministry of Health confirmed the presence of five isolated cases in Italy and the statement by Minister Speranza who underlined: “We keep the level of attention high thanks to our European and national surveillance network”, our Region also aligns itself with the national dictates

Yesterday, Wednesday 25 May, the same ministry issued an explanatory circular with the procedures to be followed. And the Department of Health of the Puglia Region, acknowledging this circular, has sent a letter to all the local health authorities inviting them to pay the utmost attention and promptly report any cases.

“For the virological assessment – they specify in the circular – the regional reference is the Molecular Epidemiology and Public Health laboratory of the Bari Polyclinic. Whole blood and serum samples, a throat swab and lesion samples, preferably taken from different locations of the body and at different evolutionary stages, must be sent, in compliance with the rules on the transport and traceability of biological samples, to the attention of Professor Maria Chironna ».
