Reactions arrive on WhatsApp: you can reply to messages with emojis

There are times in our digital life when it’s still not entirely clear how to behave with education. An example is when we are chatting in chat, perhaps on an instant messaging application, and we do not know whether or not to reply to a message. In short, whether to leave the blue check or if try to have one last wordperhaps with a simple “ok” or “received”.

Here, the CEO of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg has a solution to this problem ready, at least as far as WhatsApp is concerned: even on the most famous and used instant messaging app, the Menlo Park company has enabled reactions, i.e. the possibility of reacting (in fact) with some emojis to a message received . It’s about a feature already available on Instagramwhere, however, you can only put a simple like, and on Messenger, where it is possible to react with smileys ranging from laughter to anger, along the lines of what can be done on posts.

The reactions that will be available on WhatsApp are 6: there are all the most classic, from the heart to the angry face, up to that surprise or smile. In a post published on Facebook just before the meeting with Mario Draghi, Zuckerberg explained that “we have also included joined hands, to foster thanks and positive emotions. New expressions will be available soon ”.

How WhatsApp changes, from groups to communities

The introduction of message reactions comes in a period of change for the most used instant messaging application in the world, with approximately 2 billion active users per month: a few weeks ago, WhatsApp had announced the debut of Communitya function that aims to expand the social dimension of the platform.

Community, not yet available but being released, will allow people to aggregate separate groups into one space. In this environment, users will have the opportunity to receive general updates, in a sort of shared bulletin board, and to participate in smaller discussion spaces. As if in a maxi group from the school there were within WhatsApp subgroups of the individual classes or the school bus.

This move testifies to the willingness of Meta’s proprietary platform to fight the competitors that have been emerging in recent years. In particular Telegramwith its Channels and its information dimension, e Discordwhose servers provide secure spaces to talk about specific topics.

The other news that WhatsApp is thinking about, as well as the ability to be used on two phones at the same time, concern groups: in particular, it will be possible to send files up to 2 GB and make voice calls up to 32 participants; in addition, group administrators will have more effective moderation tools and will be able to remove messages deemed problematic more easily.
