Realme Gt smartphone, the proof

by admin

In 2021 it is difficult to find what are the peculiar characteristics of a smartphone compared to the competition. Better: the difference is very subtle. There are manufacturers who dare with an unusual design, those who focus on the quality / price ratio or even on pure performance. There are also the added values of the ecosystem of apps, other devices and accessories that make a difference, more and more in recent years.

When it comes to telling what really makes a difference, certainly the most convincing aspect is the price, and the Realme Gt, the latest top of the range from the Chinese manufacturer, knows how to convince from this point of view.

And while it convinces, it impresses. Right from the box, which is much larger than usual and in a flamboyant contrast between black and yellow (Realme’s signature color) and houses the smartphone, a USB-C cable and the SuperDart charger. The size of the package is not only of aesthetic importance, but also of economic importance: in the same container that is shipped from the factory to the shops, many more small packages can fit than large. So, with the same number of devices shipped, Realme spends more on its smartphones compared to Apple, which has removed the chargers and therefore has much smaller boxes for iPhones.

To compensate and keep the final price low, Realme takes advantage of the good base of the operating system of Oppo, a Chinese manufacturer that has recently officially joined forces with OnePlus (they are all part of the Bkk Electronics group): this helps to reduce research and development costs and allows you to invest more in top-of-the-range hardware components and large marketing campaigns. Realme Gt is one of the first smartphones of the brand to receive pre-installed the new RealmeUi 2.0 operating system based on Android 11, which has borrowed a lot of features from ColorOS 11, Oppo’s latest operating system, also based on Android 11.

Hardware side, Realme Gt has a 6.43-inch Super Amoled display with 1080 x 2400 pixel resolution, with 120 Hz refresh rate and a chip Snapdragon 888 with 5G sub-6 support (up to 1 Gbps in download), the best you can have today on Android smartphones. There is only one memory cut, from 128 GB with 8 Gb of Ram, even if a 12/256 configuration is mentioned on the official website, which however does not appear among the purchase options.

The photos
The main camera is a system of three sensors: there is the 64 Mp, the 8 MP ultra wide angle and the 2 Mp macro lens, and it records 4K video at 30 frames per second. It is not the best in terms of color fidelity and white balance, but the software corrects the noise just enough to give a sense of sharpness in panoramic scenes and return an optimal effect with the subjects in the foreground. The front one is 16 Mp, it surprised us in the negative, because it is perhaps even worse than other Realme smartphones: the scene is too bright and there seems to be no attempt at noise reduction, which therefore produces a smudged effect, as if it were not in focus.

What we like
Between 5G, 120 Hz screen and fast charging, which are excellent strengths, it is a smartphone that can appeal to many, especially for the list price of 499 euros, often discounted around (or below) 400. With the same price, to date there is no smartphone with the latest top-of-the-range Snapdragon chip and 5G, and this makes the choice easier, even compared to OnePlus smartphones, which have always been known for their quality / price ratio.

What we don’t like
It would be a smartphone without substantial defects, for the mid-range, if Realme had an ecosystem of devices as mature as other manufacturers established for more time, such as Samsung or Xiaomi. Unfortunately, the app that acts as a hub, Realme Link, still looks a lot like a clone of Xiaomi Home, with few changes. But that could change, with the further expansion of the IoT range and the arrival of televisions within the year.

Price and availability
Realme Gt is available for 499 euros on the official Realme website in Dashing Blue, Dashing Silver and Racing Yellow colors, in the single configuration with 128 GB of memory and 8 GB of RAM. On Amazon, however, the version with 256 GB of memory and 12 GB of RAM is also available for 599 euros.
