Research and innovation, from Rimini the Italian ‘startup nation’

by admin

It is the challenge launched for the economic restart of our country which looks to the future with confidence, focusing on research and on the ecosystem of startups and innovative companies to attract new ideas and investments. Italy is thus preparing to become a competitive ‘startup nation’ on an international scale, which can be anticipated in the context of the World Startup Fest. The event dedicated to startups and scaleups inaugurates this year within the ninth edition of the WMF which from 15 to 17 July takes place in the presence of the Palacongressi in Rimini (you can also participate online through the hybrid.io platform). It offers a container of appointments and opportunities for discussion and discussion entirely dedicated to the startup and scaleup universe from all over the world.

Among the events on the agenda of the World Startup Fest, for example, the Scaleup for Future panel brings five Scaleups from England, the Netherlands, Paris and Singapore to the Mainstage of the WMF2021, discovering some of the leading realities in the field of innovation such as Bidroom, SumUp, foodpanda, Revolut and ContentSquare; which presents its business model and their case studies to the public present and in connection. In fact, the initiative aims to be an opportunity for comparison between already established companies and stakeholders on the international scene.

The other novelty of the WMF2021 is the Startup International Showcase. The panel hosts eight international startups selected from applications from Asia, Africa, Europe, USA and South America. It offers participants an international perspective of entrepreneurship linked to innovation, presenting their activities and growth paths.

In addition, the Final of the largest Startup Competition in Italy is back on July 16th as always at the heart of the whole WMF. Also this year, it is led by Diletta Leotta and Cosmano Lombardo, creator of the Rimini event. The six finalist startups selected from the over 500 applications received will participate in the Competition – which has a history of over 3,300 applications from all over the world and the equivalent of 1.9 million euros in prizes awarded by more than 200 investors and partners – will participate. These are DeepMammo, Hexagro, MyLeg, Recornea, Toothpic, VoiceMed, from Luxembourg, Switzerland and Italy. Introducing topical issues such as cybersecurity, digital health and agrifood. A jury of experts and representatives of venture capital, investors, corporate partners of the most important realities of the innovative ecosystem (including Amazon AWS, Bocconi for Innovation, Cariplo Factory just to name a few) evaluates the projects in competition. Up for grabs for the best projects, prizes worth over 500 thousand euros.

The Startup District is also reserved for the universe of startups. The exhibition area dedicated to the latest technological innovations presents 40 startups from all over the world, thus offering the opportunity to access many opportunities for networking and business-matching through meetings with the main players in the sector, business partners and with the participants of the WMF. The Startup Stage also hosts another 36 selected startups which, although not among the finalists of the Competition, have nevertheless distinguished themselves for the innovative potential of their business model.

Not only. For the first time this year the Innovation Festival celebrates the first edition of the Big Data and Artificial Intelligence National Research Award. The award stems from the partnership between WMF and the International Foundation Big Data and Artificial Intelligence for Human Development (IFAB), in support of young researchers. Up for grabs, a prize money of € 13,500 to be allocated to innovative research results in the field of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence. The award ceremony is on July 15 on the main stage of the Palacongressi in the presence, among others, of Sanzio Bassini, scientific director of IFAB.
