TikTok has named the new CEO and COO, in a strategic reorganization “to optimize global teams and support company growth,” reads a statement released by the short video sharing platform. Shou Zi Chew, CFO of ByteDance, also becomes CEO of TikTok and Vanessa Pappas, who served as interim chief, will formally assume the role of COO. “Shou and Vanessa’s leadership team sets the stage for sustained growth,” said Yiming Zhang, founder and CEO of ByteDance. “Shou brings a deep knowledge of the company and the industry, having led a team that was among our early investors and having worked in the technology sector for a decade. He will add depth to the team, focusing on areas including corporate governance and business ventures complete”.

Pappas will continue to oversee its current portfolio of responsibilities, including managing all key operations of the platform. Prior to joining ByteDance earlier this year, Chew held a number of senior roles with global mandates in the technology and investment community. In 2013 he led a team that became one of the first investors in the company. He lives in his hometown of Singapore. Pappas joined TikTok in late 2018 after a career in the video platform space, most recently on YouTube. Lives in Los Angeles.
