Russia, the test of the new Sarmat ICBM
The launch was carried out from the Plesetsk base, 800 kilometers north of Moscow. The missile then hit the Kura range in the Kamchatka region of the Far East. Putin, in congratulating the armed forces, said that “this weapon will have no equal in the world for a long time”.

“Only components made in Russia were used to make the Sarmat,” Putin added in his TV message to the nation. According to what the Russian leader reported, the new ICBM is capable of “surpassing all modern anti-aircraft systems”.

The new weapon is part of a series of missiles described in 2018 as “invisible” by Vladimir Putin. Among them, the Kinjal and Avangard missiles. In March, Moscow claimed to have used Kinjal for the first time in Ukraine.

The Sarmat weighs about 200 tons and would have a range of more than 11,000 km. In 2019, Putin said that Sarmat “has virtually no scope limits.”
