Sardinia: the Todde council stops the 4 new hospitals in Solinas – Healthcare

Alessandra Todde’s regional council has definitively shelved the project of the four new hospitals in Cagliari, Sassari, Alghero and Sulcis, launched at the end of the legislature by Christian Solinas’s executive.

During the session which took place in the Regional Council building in Cagliari at the end of the Chamber’s work, the awaited resolution proposed by the Health Department led by Armando Bartolazzi was approved, which cancels the resolution adopted two days after the regional elections which took note of “the feasibility studies presented by the local health authorities for the construction of new hospital facilities”.

“There was no financial coverage for the provision – the president explained to journalists at the end of the meeting – and, just as no planning was done in all these five years of the council, it was decided to build these four hospitals without foreseeing what would happened to others.”

“Before spending 800 million on new hospitals – added the governor – we need to understand well what we need to do to make the existing ones work and invest in hospital construction where needed”. “The CTO of Iglesias, for example, has beautiful operating rooms, better than those of San Raffaele, but then there are no doctors to run them.”

The objective is therefore different: “We want to carry out a process that can serve the Sardinians and not build empty boxes – Todde specified -, a process that redistributes resources correctly both to the existing hospitals, which in many cases are suffering, and in the distribution of doctors and for the relaunch of local medicine”.

But no preconceptions: “If there is a need for hospital construction we will not back down, but it will only be following careful planning”, concluded the governor.
