Ancient Recipe Found to Cure Scabies Outbreak in Italy

In the midst of a concerning rise in scabies cases in Italy, experts at the Irccs Meyer of Florence have made a groundbreaking discovery – an ancient recipe that can cure the contagious skin disease caused by the ‘sarcoptes scabiei hominis’ mite.

According to a report by the beraking latest news news agency, the hospital is currently seeing a high number of scabies cases, with 2/3 of patients being treated for the disease every week. However, a recent study published in the ‘International Journal of Dermatology’ has revealed a definitive cure for the condition using a sulfur-based cream.

The study involved 22 patients who were all treated with a cream containing 17% sulfur, applied to the affected areas. The treatment protocol, developed at Meyer in Florence, involves applying the cream in the evening and leaving it on for three days without washing, creating a barrier of sulfur to combat the mites. The treatment is then repeated the following week for both the patient and their household members.

Dr. Cesare Filippeschi, a specialist dermatologist involved in the study, expressed excitement over the results, stating that the treatment has already garnered interest from other centers both nationally and internationally. He also noted that the cost of the treatment is significantly lower than other therapies on the market.

The use of sulfur in treating scabies harkens back to earlier times when fumes from burnt sulfur flowers were used to disinfect rooms of scabies patients. This rediscovery of an old remedy serves as a reminder of the effectiveness of traditional medicines in combating modern diseases.
