“Six new locations for the Medicine course in the Piacenza hospital”

The specialization of the degree course in Medicine and Surgery of the Piacenza branch of the University of Parma is growing and, at the same time, that of the health departments of our territory. In fact, during the year 2023, six “new offices” of the University of Parma will be activated at the Piacenza hospital. This means that posts as associate professor and researcher will be banned, figures at the helm of some complex operational units of the hospital which will then also be useful for the didactic activity of students. These are the departments of cardiology, oncology, hematology, neurology, general surgery and ongoing rehabilitation medicine, which will be added to those already active in pediatrics, orthopedics and traumatology.

In this way, the provisions of the framework agreement signed by the Region, the Municipality of Piacenza, Ausl and the University of Parma, for the start of the degree course in our city, are implemented. The course was presented by the rector of the university, Paolo Andrei, at the territorial socio-health conference. The president of the CTSS Lucia Fontana thanked the actors involved who “made it possible to realize in a short time an expected dream (the Medicine course in Piacenza, ed.) And which represents a significant turning point in our province”. «Now the implementation of the“ new offices ”must be examined by the Regional Steering Committee which approves the programs between the University and the Ausl – explained Professor Andrei -. We are making progress on the presence of university roles in healthcare companies and to do so we need to hypothesize the roles of associate professor and researcher, two for each single new site. Other associate professor positions have been imagined together with the Piacenza Ausl for the clinical activity of microbiology, rheumatology, applied general hygiene: we will not open new additional offices of complex operating units but we will complete the picture on the didactic and assistance front “.

Andrei took stock of the course which, within six years, foresees the arrival in Piacenza of six hundred students, one hundred for each first year that will be started. “It is going well – he explained to the mayors gathered by videoconference – even if there are problems from the logistical point of view: the Alberoni college has however guaranteed the commitment to identify spaces to host the class of first year students who will start this one. Autumn”. From here, according to the mayor of Piacenza Patrizia Barbieri, “the new challenge will now be the recovery of the former military hospital”, the future seat of the Degree in Medicine in English at the University of Parma. “Piacenza is opening up to internationalization – added the mayor – and the course increasingly qualifies our health and our city”. For the president of Ctss Fontana, “everyone’s will, commitment and cohesion are important”, ingredients that “allow strategic and important objectives to be achieved also for peripheral hospitals, led by prestigious and skilled health professionals, inserted in a context of network that qualifies the whole territory “. “We need to think over vast areas and not just provincial ones” confirmed Andrei. The Deputy Mayor of Fiorenzuola Paola Pizzelli stressed the importance of “the growth of the territory, of students and of the economy” while the Mayor of Calendasco Filippo Zangrandi underlined the importance of the vision of “territorial health in this path”. The director of the Ausl Giuliana Bensa highlighted the commitment of the company that “accompanies professionals, representing them the scenario that will determine the University”.
