ANCONA – A 24-year-old woman, an Italian citizen but residing in France, was hospitalized yesterday in the Infectious Diseases department of the Torrette regional hospital for a suspected case of monkeypox. The patient, according to what Dr. Andrea Mariotti, of the Hospital Medical Direction of the University Hospital of Ospedali Riuniti of Ancona, he presents a diffuse erythema with vesicles and papules, respiratory distress and headache. The woman, who is in good health, also confirmed to doctors that she had had a fever in recent days.

«Currently – says Dr. Mariotti – tests are underway aimed at excluding differential diagnoses with other exanthematous viruses while waiting for the reagents for the molecular diagnosis of the virus by PCR, whose arrival is expected by Tuesday. Yesterday afternoon the woman’s son, 4 years old, also arrived at the emergency room, presenting a slight skin rash, but in the absence of other signs or symptoms. The child was discharged in an ambulance and accompanied to his grandmother’s home ».
