Smallpox of monkeys in Mantua: first case confirmed

The patient is in home isolation. Il Poma: “It’s not serious, two other suspected cases are negative”

MANTUA. The suspected case of monkeypox that struck a Mantuan and of which the Gazzetta di Mantova had reported a few days ago has been confirmed. From the laboratory of the Pavia hospital, to which the samples were sent last Monday, the news arrived after a few hours: the subject residing in the province of Mantua is positive for the virus. This is the first case in the Mantua area. The patient is not in serious condition, is therefore not hospitalized and has been placed in home isolation for a week during which he will undergo antiviral therapy. There were three suspected cases in the Mantua area at the end of last week, but for two of these the laboratory of the Pavia hospital ruled out the infection. So far, 11 cases of monkeypox patients have been identified in Lombardy. They are all Italians and reside respectively: 5 in Ats Milano, 3 in Ats Brianza, 1 in Ats Brescia, 1 in Ats Pavia and 1 in Ats Val Padana.
